Had joined several institutes like "Le Federation Photographique de France 1995- Paris division. 1998 had followed an comprehensive annual course of basic to intermediate Black and White photography At atelier D'art Plastique de Camille Claudel, at Paris- La Porte de la Villette. Paris Cité de Science.

What excite me and why Black and white ?

I discovered photography in my country . I remember my first vintage Russian Fed rangefinder I had inherited within my family. I also had a like minded friend and we had an old homemade enlarger to play with. I always appreciate B&W monochrome and it is the best medium to express any vision through little manipulation. It is very expressive and efficient to convert your thoughts into any occasion in many ways. Traditional imagery of Ansel Adams and The French Alpinist landscape photographer Pierre Tirras ( Family ) is my best influenced photographers., which led me to my project of Chamonix Mont Blanc Alps. which got ot my home alone series project. Next to landscape I prioritised to documents the urban cityscapes. My best medium was B&W on 35 mm and 120mm and it was mainly on analogue.

Deuring the period of living in Paris, I had an adapted a mini- Dark room in my studio and the life was very eturxciting and picturesque.

My bodies of photographic work consists many environments portraits of documentaries of city life styles and their many manifestations of social challenges of Joy, sorrow, pleasure and some rare situations of death. My passion for photography developed through the past years in many aspects. It renmains captive to this unique unique world with many challenges. It keeps me more educative with my connection to be more aware and sensitive to our environment we living.

I believe in living in the moment and creating possibilities. My path winds through photography, visual art ,culture, everything and everything where creativity shows up. So photography is my base of medium and therapy for healing my sole as I had mentioned that else where. I am embarsing the Digital medium but as I had initiated into photography through analogue. I am still partial to that medium.

Artist statement

I am Cyril Jayant, Sri Lankan origin , naturalised as a French citizen lived in Paris long for two decades . Presently based in London as a calligrapher and graphic artist. I speak in several languages and my FAVOURITE LANGUAGE IS PHOTOGRAPHY. As many of us as photographers speak that language in many ways with an own accents, I have my own, developed within a unique way to show my eye in Photography.

I agree my photo genre I developed alwys had a some traces of influence of the well known past masters of French Photographers.

My Photography had initiated in Paris , the city known internationally to many artist including Photographers as " LE CAPITAL DE LA PHOTOGRAPHY " I am very fortunate to be in this amazing vibrent city filled with many cultural trends to decorate it's photogenic appeals to anyone who had a camera in hand. Paris always offerd me a unique opportunity to develop an eye on my daly vision which nourished me infinitely and intellectually to be in the place where I am now today.

My main influence of having seen many French Master photographers work and constant international Photographers hanging around many foundations and curative galleris Like " La Maison European de La photographie de Paris" Paris being the Capital of Photography. Also several Institutes like Le Fédération Photographique de France had being my main influence. My body of work always have the journalistic approach as I have learnt how to integrate the documentary approach to most of my capture. My connection to the cityscape, it's living and the inhibitons , the life styles and city rituals was the main daily challenges for me and my dream. All I was thinking was getting a pair of shoe that last long and a handy camera . I found my handy camera, The camera that is still solid and magestic even after 30 Yeras plus service. It Is my first Leica M6, my sole companion up to day, but I never found a pair of solid walking shoes to last long.

This Photo-folio selection is a random series of a"memoir " from my PARIS YESTERDAY archives. This was one of my ongoing project that did for two decades while being there. This series has got me to develop into a book project " as Vintage Paris" but it is always pending waiting for the next step to find an editor. and a publisher.
