Présentation de l'artiste
Blake Sterling
Blake Sterling is a twenty year old photographer. He is currently a student in Providence, RI. He has photographed for nearly seven years. Working with desire, form, immediacy, and the extremes of life, Sterling creates to imagine and capture his life as it decays around him. Always failing but nearly approaching these goals, Sterling is moved by immediacy in an anxiety of disappearance especially with beloveds, lovers, and loved aesthetics. Working for Musée Magazine in New York as a Photo Editor during the summer of 2024, Sterling produced XX. This first portfolio captured his voyeurism and escape as he moved throughout the day and into the night. He worked to begin revealing who he was and how he performed who he wished to become. XX was selected by L’Œil de la Photographie for their Weekend Portfolios in November, 2024. Sterling has self-produced a magazine print of XX, two short films, another portfolio titled For This Love, and is currently working on his next significant portfolio to be produced soon. His practice is mostly analog in 35mm and 120mm photography as well as 16mm filmmaking. Blake Sterling is a fine art photographer awaiting a daring curator to see his vision, form, and aesthetic and help take his work as far as he believes it deserves to go.

Artist statement
As Blake Sterling’s debut portfolio, XX presents an immediate body of work photographed during the month and twenty days he spent in New York City from June to July of 2024. XX is a portfolio of his voyeurism and escapes as he photographed throughout the day and into the night. With XX, Sterling has only started showing us who we are and what we can become. While photographing an unknown man, Sterling wrote nearly a love letter to his subject:
I watch a man to see his reflection
all to know he might see me.
It is his hope that XX builds upon itself in many forms to one day reveal who Blake Sterling was and how he performed who he wished to become.
